Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Combat is the most open-ended part of the game but, even so, you'll rarely have the opportunity to try anything terribly sophisticated. In most cases, you'll simply be presented with a few enemies (never more than six at a time) right in front of you. Taking them out never really involves any puzzle elements; you'll simply have to point the mouse at the enemies and click the button. There are some more complicated moments, but for the most part the combat is, like the rest of the game, very low-impact. |

The BF 1942 Killer is here!
Joint Ops brings us to a near-future Indonesia, but the story and locale aren't too important in an MP design to devote much more than, "This is a Southeast Asian tropical environment." You'll get jungles, semi-urban environments, island chains, and fortress assaults, for the most part, on huge maps that support up to 150 people. No, that's not a typo. One hundred and fifty people can play at once on the same map, and the map size and overall stability was solid across the board, although I would have wished for more transport vehicles. |

Ground Control II: Operation Exodus
Ground Control II: Operation Exodus jumps forward in time from the original game by a few hundred years into a time when the Crayven Corporation and Order of the New Dawn don't even exist anymore. Instead, we're introduced to the Northern Star Alliance, a group of planets that were Earth colonies cut off from the center of human space back during the corporation wars in the first game. Sadly for them, their independence was to crumble when the Terran Empire, the new rule in human space, decided to come back and bring the lost colonies back into the fold. Rather than let these planets defy them, the Empire begins to purge them, killing millions and destroying whole cities from space. In a last ditch effort, the NSA raises energy shields to block the bombardment so the only option left to the Empire is to bring in the ground troops and take each city from the planet surface. |

Kohan II: Kings of War
Like the original game, the new game does away with traditional resource modeling and features a per-minute income and cost system for each of the resources -- wood, mana, gold, etc. Having structures like lumber mills add to the amount of wood you collected each turn while wood-heavy units like archers detract from it. Any surplus wood is immediately converted into gold; any deficits are offset by deductions from your gold stores. As a result, gold is the only resource you'll actually ever hoard and the challenge becomes creating an economy that support your needs across the board. |

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War
The first Fun Thing is the emphasis on large units versus small units. Each faction--Space Marines, Chaos Marines, and the Eldar--has its big beasties. The Orks, for example, have their Killer Kanz, basically a cobbled together Dreadnought, which looks like a MechWarrior. The Orks also have an enormous juggernaut unit that looks kinda like a triceratops with huge facial horns and spiked tail club. He also has a unit sitting on his carapace that's outfitted with guns, allowing him to attack up to eight different vectors simultaneously. His most satisfying attack is rearing up and stomping the ground, which sends all the units around him flying for big damage. |

Perimeter
Perimeter takes place outside of our universe and inside a chain of dimensional worlds that a race of people are using to reach a distant destination which Spirits, a race of hyper-intelligent beings, have told them will be their Eden. It's confusing where these people came from or where exactly it is they're going. In that way, the story feels a bit disjointed although it does start to make a bit more sense as the political make-up between the story's main players becomes apparent. Centuries ago, the human race set off on a journey to find a new home with the guidance of these Spirits. Nine gigantic city ships called Frames set off one at a time to try and find their way to salvation. |
